Anida ——清澈女声与激烈鼓动之间，游走于 Live Shows 与 Live Shows 之间的独立女生音乐人。打从写了《小牛一家》给阿牛出版后，不断从书本、电影和好音乐取灵感，写了多首清澈的曲目，包办作曲、作词、演唱、上载网页的多个角色。音乐风格承传台湾音乐女生小品情绪，唱出知性女孩迷失特区城市的情感观察。
吴雪颖，德文名Ecke（角落），低凋民谣女歌手，影像、视觉、文字爱好者。同济大学建筑系毕业，之后留学于德国恺撒斯劳滕大学，2006年6月底获硕士学位毕业回国。喜欢音乐类型：PostRock Shoegaze Indie Gothica Darkwave。
杨千墀，一把听似平静的嗓音，隐藏的是对自己对世界不断的思考，还有骨子里的坚持。配合着吉他简单的旋律，轻轻哼唱，从一把练习琴到YAMAHA，从写歌练琴到录音，从自己唱到唱给别人，杨千墀还会带给我们更多。

Great Lake Swimmers，大湖泳者是一支来自加拿大的著名民谣乐团，由主唱兼吉他手Tony Dekker、Erik Arnesen（班卓琴、电吉他、簧风琴等）、Julie Fader（键盘及女主音）、Bret Higgins(低音吉他）和Greg Millson（鼓手）组成。他们的音乐令人心醉神迷, 歌曲的靡靡意境会让你仿佛置身于世外桃源，许多电影与广告的配乐也争相录用他们的乐曲。

When Great Lake Swimmers’ Tony Dekker wrote the song “Everything is Moving So Fast,” he couldn’t have predicted that it would foreshadow the rapid success of the Toronto band’s fourth album, LOST CHANNELS. For a project that has seen a slow upward trajectory since its humble beginnings in 2001, the Great Lake Swimmers are suddenly getting exponentially more attention across North America and Europe, entrancing newcomers to the band with Dekker’s unforgettable voice and compelling songwriting.
That LOST CHANNELS was a success in Canada is no surprise: Great Lake Swimmers have long been a word-of-mouth favourite for whom critical mass was inevitable, and they are regarded as a national treasure by the country’s public broadcaster, the CBC; LOST CHANNELS recently topped the chart on CBC Radio 3 (which is also broadcast in the U.S. on Sirius Satellite Radio). It also sat at #1 on iTunes’ Singer/Songwriter chart.
But it’s not just the home team cheering on the Swimmers. LOST CHANNELS attained the #2 Most-Added position at the influential radio trade magazine Friday Morning Quarterback. It debuted at #10 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Chart in its first week, re-entering the Top 10 in May, and was #1 on the Amazon MP3 downloads chart. Meanwhile, an older non-album track, “See You On the Moon,” can be heard on prime time television in a Honda ad. And individual bloggers have been massive champions: Great Lake Swimmers reached “Most Blogged Artist” status on premier MP3 site Hype Machine.
No doubt much of this has been fuelled in part by public endorsements by the likes of Feist, Robert Plant, NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams and cyclist Lance Armstrong. The latter two have both raved about the band on their personal websites; the former have handpicked the Great Lake Swimmers to open shows and whole tours. They’ve also shared bills with Bela Fleck & The Sparrow Quartet, Hayden, Goldfrapp, and Bill Callahan of Smog.
This sudden exposure is new for a band that has always dwelled in shadows, telling tales of hidden histories, singing of "mining for light in the dark wells," of being "tuned to an instrument of greater and unknown design."
The instrument in question is the singular voice of Tony Dekker, a voice that summons ghosts from times past. It’s a voice that is capable of conveying heartache and comfort all in the space of a single phrase. Though his supporting cast has changed over the years—with the exception of longtime right-hand man Erik Arnesen — Dekker has always encircled him self with sympathetic players who value spacious arrangements that frame his vocals. Over time, the band has evolved from a sparse, delicate and hushed unit into a well-rounded folk rock band, sacrificing none of their original intimacy while upping both the volume and tempos when necessary.
Dekker chooses to record in old churches, community halls, abandoned grain silos and rural locations. It's easy to hear why. His voice doesn't need any studio embellishment, standing at its strongest when bathed in natural reverb and enriched by the historical context surrounding it.
To record LOST CHANNELS, Dekker and company went upstream on the St. Lawrence River to the Thousand Islands, halfway between Toronto and Montreal, a historic and picturesque area that straddles the Canadian/American border, and has been designated a World Biosphere Region. Great Lake Swimmers arrived at the invitation of fan and Thousand Islands photographer/regional historian Ian Coristine (www.1000islandsphotoart.com).
Coristine was able to arrange for the band to record in a number of acoustically unique spaces within the region, including one of the area's most storied landmarks, Singer Castle on Dark Island, near Hammond, NY (www.singercastle.com); as well as the historical Brockville Arts Centre (www.brockvilleartscentre.com); and at St. Brendan’s Church in Rockport, ON.
River imagery recurs throughout LOST CHANNELS; the title of the album is a reference to a certain passage of the St. Lawrence, close to the recording locale, where a reconnaissance boat from a British warship went mysteriously missing in 1760. There’s no specific reference to the incident in the lyrics, though there are plenty of night skies, howling winds and raging rivers in almost every song which captures an elusive sense of mystery. As the album closes, Dekker sings the final lyrics—“Like the unstoppable river… Your beauty is gentle/ but forceful, and fast”—before the band ends on a suspended note. There is no resolution there, only eternity, a continuum, an endless river.
LOST CHANNELS also features the talents of Julie Fader (flute/backing vocals), Greg Millson (drums), Darcy Yates (bass), with appearances by Erin Aurich on violin; Mike Olsen on cello; and Paul Aucoin on vibraphone; along with special guests / Swimmers collaborators Serena Ryder with vocals on “Everything Is Moving So Fast” and Bob Egan on pedal steel.

2009年9月6日至9月27日，后海大鲨鱼、刺猬、赌鬼3支乐队，历时22天，横跨全美18个城市，在美国境内展开一系列以Sing For China为主题的巡回演出。2010年1月8号，3支乐队将聚集愚公移山，为新年献上一场最摇滚的Party！由于刺猬乐队的贝司手博譞刚刚离队，由吉他兼主唱子健和鼓手石璐组成的全新组合B-side Lovers将代替刺猬演出。而正在准备新专辑的后海大鲨鱼和赌鬼乐队，也将有新的曲目为歌迷带来新年的新惊喜！！

Hedgehog and Casino Demon launched an United State tour as the theme of “Sing For China” and which lasted 22 days and included 18 cities. January 8th 2010, these three bands will gather together in Yu Gong Yi Shan and present a maximum rock party for the coming of new year. And then, Zijian and Atom which are the members of Hedgehog will turn into a brand new group “B-side Lovers” and replace hedgehog for that night show. Queen Sea Big Shark and Casino Demon whom are preparing their new album will play their new tracks and bring much more surprise to the funs.

Patrick Watson is an internationally acclaimed singer, composer, songwriter, and producer. Patrick Watson is also the name of this mad genius’ band, darlings of Montreal’s indie rock scene, who have performed with the likes of Feist, The Dears, Phillip Glass and, gasp, James Brown.
Both Patrick Watson the man and Patrick Watson the band have received international acclaim since the September 2006 release of Close to Paradise in Canada, the album went gold in Canada, and won numerous awards, including Canada’s prestigious Polaris Prize. Close to Paradise saw international release in September 2007, and the band hasn’t looked back, selling over 100,000 copies worldwide. Since then Patrick Watson’s fanbase seems to have grown exponentially, with the live show now commanding huge audiences across the world, from Paris, to Reykjavik, Amsterdam, London, New York, and of course, Montreal, where Watson and most of the band still reside.
Despite the internationally demanding schedule, Watson himself also found time to contribute to Cinematic Orchestra’s 2007 album, Ma Fleur, and to compose scores and songs for a number of films—something he has always had a passion for. It should come as no surprise then, that the band’s music is often described as cinematic and wildly eclectic.
Watson met guitarist Simon Angell in their hometown of Hudson, Quebec when they were teenagers, and the two have collaborated ever since—Angell’s soundscapes and noise-influences having developed into the perfect complement to Watson’s colourful melodic compositions and gut-wrenching falsetto. Then, while studying music at Vanier College in the late-nineties, Patrick met Ukrainian-born Mishka Stein, and Swiss/British Columbia ex-pat Robbie Kuster, who were increasingly invited to fill out his rhythm section when performing live shows.

美国民谣唱作人Andrew Bird 2010年中国/新加坡巡演
他用小提琴和口哨优雅地唱歌
Andrew Bird是一位独特的民谣音乐人，即使平均每年演出200场以上，也从不让自己感到厌倦。因为即便是同一首歌，他演了多少遍，就有多少个版本，没有任何两次的处理是完全一样的。无论是小提琴、口哨还是他的演唱，几乎什么都可以变，但每次变化都令人神往。虽然每首歌都只有区区几个和弦，但他会刻意在创作时留给每首歌很大的发挥空间，从而使每首歌都充满了神秘和惊喜。
这个出生于1973年的巨蟹座男人来自芝加哥，除了音乐，从没做过任何其他工作。他从4岁开始接触小提琴，受着学院派的古典音乐训练。他每天练习10到13个小时，直到手肘发炎；5岁就跟奶奶学习吹口哨。早在1996年，就以self-funding的姿态发行独立制作唱片的Bird，倚靠独特的古典乐背景，将弦乐与民谣摇滚完美融合。然而真正把口哨用在他的音乐里，是2002年。那次演出，他的乐队Bowl of Fire不能出席，他便硬着头皮一人带着乐器上阵，并尝试在演出时吹口哨，然而观众的反响出乎意料的好。直到现在，优雅的口哨声已经成为他音乐的标志之一。
正是那次成功的个人演出之后，他一个人通过乐器和多轨录音机完成了整个乐队的任务：他身兼歌手、词曲创造和各种乐器的融合，可以说，他一个人就是一个乐队。当他怀抱小提琴，背着木吉他上台的时候，观众无法想象将要看到、听到的到底是什么。他的风格诡异而离奇，有着吉普赛民谣的风情，又充满了南方蓝草的根源；有着早期摇摆爵士乐的风味，又不乏乡村布鲁斯的淳朴；再仔细听，还有着苏格兰民谣、卡利普索甚至南印度音乐的影子。正是这样，你永远也不可能把他和别人弄混。甚至每一次演出中的他，都是一个崭新的Andrew Bird。
他曾说，只要世界任何一个地方有300名观众要看他唱歌，他都会开心地跑过去演出。而08年他在芝加哥千禧年公园的演出，却聚集了超过13000名观众。他在最近四年发行的三张专辑，为他在全世界赢得了大量声誉和赞赏。任何一个看过他演出的人，都为他现场流露的才华和迷人的歌声所倾倒。

ANDREW BIRD 2010 CHINA/SINGAPORE TOUR
A one-man symphony from a modern folk-rock icon
Chicago, 1977: A four-year-old Andrew Bird picks up his first violin. (Actually, it is
a Cracker Jack box with a ruler taped to it.) So begins a formative period soaking up classical repertoire completely by ear followed by a teenage expansion into Hungarian Gypsy music, early jazz, country blues, South Indian music and more, as well as the discovery of an uncanny whistling ability.
Fast-forward 32 years – the Bird man has 8 critically lauded albums under his belt (5 solo works and 3 with his band, Andrew Bird’s Bowl of Fire), and has been winning accolades for his astonishing live performances. The New York Times’ Jonathan Mahler witnessed the multi-instrumentalist virtuoso performing in his native Chicago last January, and summed up the experience thusly:
“Onstage, Bird was engaged in something of a musical high-wire act, whistling, singing and manically shifting from violin to guitar to glockenspiel. All the while, his feet were busy working the pedals of an electronic looping station that recorded and then played back his musical progressions in short intervals….Bird’s sound is not easy to categorize. His songs are swelling and orchestral, the legacy of years spent studying classical violin at Northwestern University’s prestigious conservatory and elsewhere…His songs have a pastoral, homespun feel, but they also have a darkness and emotional complexity not typically associated with folk rock.”
True dat, Jonathan Mahler! Bird began his musical career with a 1996 solo violin album, Music of Hair, that paid tribute to American and European folk traditions, as well as jazz and blues. A year later he released Thrills with his new band Andrew Bird’s Bowl of Fire, followed by Oh! The Grandeur in 1999, The Swimming Hour in 2001 and Fingerlings in 2002.
In 2003 Bird re-invented himself as a solo artist, recreating the sound of a full band with the help of multitrack recorders and loop pedals. Solo albums Weather Systems (2003), The Mysterious Production of Eggs (2005), Armchair Apocrypha (2007) and Bird’s latest, Noble Beast (2009) have since blown critics and fans away with their disarmingly off-beat lyrics and lush, layered instrumentation.
We at Split Works are psyched to be hosting this baroque-rock gypsy-folk indie-orchestral juggernaut on his first tour in these parts. Come one, come all, and prepare to be blown away.
